  The Shy Writer

The Shy Writer

   by C. Hope Clark

'Your heart races, banging against your ribs, your chest, your throat. Fingers grip a pen to disguise the shake. The other hand flattens on your leg, your side, and your leg again drying the moisture that never disappears. You did not bargain for exhibition when you entered the world of writing. What started as a reclusive haven for your creative muse evolved into a public forum to sell your work. Good work should sell itself, you say…you wish.'

Think Outside the Square: Writing Publishable (Short) Stories

Think Outside the Square: Writing Publishable (Short) Stories

   by Cheryl Wright

As a new writer, I wanted to write short stories.

I scoured the bookshops, but couldn’t find anything to teach me how to write them. I read gazillions of short stories and bought a ton of books on writing, but still couldn’t find anything specifically geared toward writing short stories.

It was a hard slog; without even a little bit of guidance, I felt like I was drowning. Even today, there is virtually nothing available that focuses totally on short story writing.

Last year after earning more than $500 on the sale of just one story, I decided to write the book that I needed back in those early days.

This book will guide you through every stage of writing your story. You’ll learn to brainstorm better outcomes, build realistic characters, give your character a unique voice, prepare your manuscript, and much, much more.

I don’t know about you, but I’m one of those people who learns by doing, not being told, so the book was written as an interactive workshop – you will work your way through using the summary and exercise in each section.

I Wanna Win! - Tips for Becoming an Award Winning Writer

I Wanna Win! - Tips for Becoming an Award Winning Writer

   by Cheryl Wright

Nearly four years ago, I began to enter writing contests. I was told it would help me immensely with both my writing career, and honing my craft.

What I didn’t count on was the huge amounts of money I would spend, or the disheartening comments dished out by merciless judges.

They say you learn from your mistakes; I certainly did. In the period May 2003 to May 2004, I entered eight writing contests. Of those eight I short listed in six and placed second in three. In the most recent contest, I scored 98 out of 100 possible points – and won a $500 promotional package in the process. (Plus got my work in front of some pretty impressive editors at large publishing houses.)

Not only did those results catapult me from being a totally unknown writer (in early 2003) to the widely published, sought after full-time writer I am today - they also earned me the title of “award-winning writer”.

As a result, I have received constant emails from other writers around the world, all asking the same question – “What is your secret? Exactly how do you do it?”

This book is the result.
